750g minced beef
175g sausage meat
1 onion finely chopped
2 crushed cloves of garlic
2 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp sage
2 tbsp apple sauce
salt and pepper
1 tbsp tomato purée
1 egg beaten
125g/4oz breadcrumbs
6 rashers of streaky bacon
Add all ingredients (except bacon) together in a large mixing bowl, and knead firmly together for 2-3 minutes.
Grease a 900g/2lb loaf tin, add the mixture and press down firmly. Place the rashers of bacon on top of the mixture.
Then place the filled loaf tin in a large roasting dish already containing 1.2L/2 pint of water and cover both tins with foil.
Preheat oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4 and cook for 2 hours OR just roast without water for 90 minutes
